Social Networking

Well kids, It's time for the big bang.  The mother of all bullspit, the greatest con since the A.B.A., the first insurance company, or the first manufacutred vaccine.  Yes, of course, I am referring to none other than Social Media.

"But Chris...don't you use it too?  Aren't you just as much a zombie as the rest of us?"  Well?  Yes...and no.  Yes, I "use it", but generally, only for good.  Do I sit there and play games all day when I'm not doing what I'm supposed to be doing with it; educating, exposing, or informing?  Nope.  Oh, I admit it...the trap was set when I got there, and I fell into it.  For a while.  Hell, there was even a time when I did nothing but play slot machines and bingo all day, then laughed at all the funny videos and pictures.  But since I got out of that and into a real cause, there is no way on God's green Earth that I would ever go back to that trap.  And what a truly dangerous trap it is too.  Talk about being asleep!!  And yeah, I use it.  Almost constantly, no less.  But at least I have a drive; a purpose.

But out of all the social medias alive today my friends, I can actually place my finger squarely on one in particular, as the mother of all evil.  The baddest of the bad, and, believe it or not, I can prove, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that this particular one is used to mind-screw us, probably every minute of every day, and is chock-full of law enforcement...on all levels, as well as people in there that are actually paid to cause dissent, place things on pages in just the right way, and incite hatred, love, libel, and more.  Oh, and it's not Twitter.  Don't get me wrong; I'm sure there's a lot there, too, just like there is on every social media used popularly.  But this one's crimes exceed to a very high level where none have tread before.  Yes, we'll be talking about Mr. Zucherberg's pride and joy, for true, for true.  Facebook?  Here I come for you baby.

Number of total users in 2015?  1.49....BILLION.  Out of those?  1.31 BILLION use a mobile version.  Wow.  Of the total number of daily users of all types, 968,000,000 people use Facebook every....single...day.  Out of all of the stats that I read on Facebook that scared me most?  That during Thanksgiving day, in 2014, 88 percent of all users accessed facebook, at least once.  And you wonder if maybe we're a little bit leery of Facebook.

But why, you ask?  Why worry?  Well, the last stat speaks for itself.  This means, that rather than deal with our families on Thanksgiving, Facebook was more important in some way.  Speaks volumes for our social skills...and no, I don't mean our social MEDIA skills either.  We would rather speak to our inordinate amount of "friends" on Facebook than eat and socialize with living breathing human beings, especially our families.  This fact alone (which, to be honest, it surprises me that Facebook would even do and present a factoid such as this one) should be scary enough.  Unfortunately, it isn't, by far, the most scary stat.  No, these stats forthcoming may scare you a whole lot more.

So I did a little search for law enforcement and social media, and came up with some good sources.  One was directly from Lexis-Nexis, the premier electronic search instrument in law and law enforcement.

I insist that you read this report, here:

http://www.lexisnexis.com/risk/downloads/whitepaper/2014-social-media-use-in-law-enforcement.pdf

Probably the most disturbing part of this law enforcement approach is the very subversive method of creating false profiles and personas to illicit information, or disseminate the same.  Facebook has become a prime psy-op, in and of itself, and is further used to guage public reaction to true as well as false news stories, videos and posts.  In this writer's opinion, this is a dangerous game for the Government, as well as law enforcement (including the FBI, the CIA and the Secret Service) to play, and could go as far as to start conflict among factions, both religious and patriotic, be used to "nudge" personal feelings and outcomes(shown a little later), where primary and current issues are concerned.   Worse yet, this has been shown to be ABSOLUTELY TRUE where votes and issues concerning our country are concerned.

Another article, more comprehensive and useful in how law enforcement utilizes social media in "Crime solving" and "Crime Prevention" can be found here.  Also, in this one, you will find several good references for reading elsewhere about this wonderment of technologically advanced Crime solving:

A while back I did a show that featured a rant about how Obama rigged the 2012 election...but not the way people might imagine.  I now give you an article that I found on Facebook.  Unfortunately, I cannot give you the author, as I have now deactivated, more than certainly, my current account; and plan, if I can help it, to never return to Facebook ever again.  Not because I feel I'm doing wrong...but only because I just don't like anyone, LET ALONE LAW ENFORCEMENT/GOVERNMENT, snooping into my personal affairs.  The problem is, not only am I certain that Facebook is, by any means, not the ONLY way they do this...but it's one of the main ones, and, by proxy, I give them full consent to do so everytime I log into it.  That way, I can't say they're violating my rights, I imagine.

Here is that article, followed hotly by the Executive Order, still unnumbered as yet, where President Obama puts into law that he is allowed to "perform Behavior Experiments on the American People, supposedly for the purposes of "Serving Americans Better".

"The Scariest Thing Obama Has Proposed to Date
9/18/2015

Few people understand how President Barack Obama has succeeded in pushing through initiatives, programs and legislation that are distinctly unpopular with the total of the American population. To that end, few people understand how such a divisive incumbent president achieved re-election. Common sense would have that if a majority of people stood against a program, initiative or legislation – or a candidate for that matter – that success in achieving a positive result would be scant, if not impossible. But, as we have come to understand – almost seven years after the fact, Barack Obama and the Progressive machine do not play by a traditional set of rules. Instead, they play by a set of rules that are foreign and unintelligible to mainstream America and, especially, the tone-deaf Republican establishment.

Progressives have long understood the importance of not only the potency of “the message” but the need to control the message. They have become masters at crafting and controlling the framing of issues, and advancing talking points sympathetic to their cause. For many decades this consisted of touching Mr. and Ms. America in one of two vulnerable places, or both: the heart and/or the wallet. If a Progressive candidate, spin doctor or political operative could use a narrative to touch the voters’ hearts, making them sympathetic and/or angry to the allegory then they had succeeded – most of the time – in their call to action, in the political sense, to vote. Likewise, if they could demonstrate, via rhetorical example, how an opponent’s policy, legislation or platform would adversely affect their individual wallets the outcome was almost always in their favor. The truth seldom mattered. The end justified the means.

Today, Progressives have upped the ante to such a level that opponents – Republicans, Independents and Libertarians – stand nary a chance in the political arena if they continue to operate their campaign and political outreach structures in the manner of politics past. Progressives have combined the core strength of their “crusade culture” with cutting edge 21st Century technology, to create a campaign apparatus so potent that even today’s popular anti-politician anger might not be enough to defeat it.

On Tuesday, September 15, 2015, the President Obama signed an Executive Order that constitutes the most frightening political move since President Franklin D. Roosevelt tried to pack the Supreme Court. Outside of the sphere of government, Mr. Obama and his Progressive machine have authorized the government to conduct behavioral science experiments on the American people for purely political purposes.

Chuck Ross from TheDailyCaller.com reports:

“President Obama announced a new executive order on Tuesday which authorizes federal agencies to conduct behavioral experiments on US citizens in order to advance government initiatives.

“‘A growing body of evidence demonstrates that behavioral science insights – research findings from fields such as behavioral economics and psychology about how people make decisions and act on them – can be used to design government policies to better serve the American people,’ reads the executive order, released on Tuesday...

“The initiative draws on research from University of Chicago economist Richard Thaler and Harvard law school professor Cass Sunstein, who was also dubbed Obama’s regulatory czar. The two behavioral scientists argued in their 2008 book ‘Nudge’ that government policies can be designed in a way that ‘nudges’ citizens towards certain behaviors and choices.”

As brazen and jaw-dropping as that sounds, this is simply an overt continuation of what was developed at the Analyst Institute in the run-up to the 2012 election; an organization quietly formed in 2007 by AFL-CIO officials and Progressive allies, which sought to establish a set of "best practices" for interacting with voters. Their creation: the Catalyst.

As Sasha Issenberg, author of The Victory Lab, integral in the creation of the catalyst, described in 2010:

“Before the 2006 Michigan gubernatorial primary, three political scientists isolated a group of voters and mailed them copies of their voting histories, listing the elections in which they participated and those they missed. Included were their neighbors’ voting histories, too, along with a warning: after the polls closed, everyone would get an updated set.

“After the primary, the academics examined the voter rolls and were startled by the potency of peer pressure as a motivational tool. The mailer was 10 times better at turning nonvoters into voters than the typical piece of pre-election mail whose effectiveness has ever been measured...”

The application of this technology-based strategy is a matter for the history books. The Obama campaign used it in 2012 and defied the odds in achieving Mr. Obama’s re-election despite a dedicated opposition and myriad policy failures that would have seen any other candidate defeated.

In the FOX News investigative series Prying Eyes, Peter Boyer explains:

“To nearly half of America...election night came as a shock. With a terrible economy at home and new dangers abroad, President Obama seemed so beatable. But Romney didn’t know what Obama knew. Obama’s team had used the advantages of incumbency, time and money, to create something new in politics...

“Sasha Issenberg literally wrote to book on this new science of campaigning that Obama mastered. By harnessing data – like your TV viewing habits, your social media network, your voting history – the Obama campaign made a virtual profile of every single persuadable voter in the country. Then, with experiments borrowed from behavioral psychology, they targeted people with personalized messages and coaxed them to the polls.”

And we know it worked.

Now Mr. Obama has delivered the Progressive psychological stratagem of “nudge” from the shadows, and, with the power of an Executive Order, has overtly sanctioned its application by government onto the electorate for what he describes as designing “government policies to better serve the American people.” The problem with this is this. Progressives have already demonstrated they cannot be trusted to use this technology for the purposes of serving the country. In fact, because they have already used this technology to coerce people into supporting the initiatives and candidates that they want; that they believe are good for the country, they have proven to be nefarious in their intent.

Imagine using behavioral psychology coupled with the Catalyst to individually target people; to individually pressure people into accepting Progressive policies, initiatives and programs, like amnesty for illegal immigrants, or support for Planned Parenthood, Obamacare or the Iran nuclear agreement. Imagine them using this technology to coerce people into supporting Common Core or the acceptance of another trillion-dollar “stimulus.” The examples of how this stratagem can be misused and abused are myriad. And Mr, Obama and his Progressive Machine have already proved they will use it to advance their line of thinking...exclusively.

Meanwhile, Republican leadership – still self-important in believing themselves intellectually superior to the Progressive political machine – advance their campaigns and candidates; champion their causes still worried about whether or not they have enough yard signs and generic mail-outs, tone-deaf to the fact that their campaign apparatus has been laid to waste by a technological advancement straight out of Orwell’s 1984.

In 1984, Orwell wrote of “doublespeak,” a language that deliberately disguises, distorts, or reverses the meaning of words, making the truth sound more palatable. Mr. Obama’s government sanctioned unleashing of the Progressive psychological stratagem of “nudge” – the marriage of behavioral psychology and the Catalyst initiative – onto the American people will make the diabolical nature of “doublespeak” the thing of parlor games. Progressive oligarchic elites will decide what is best for the people; for the nation, and “nudge” those reluctant to automatically acquiesce into compliance.

And everyone in the New United States will comply."

And now, the executive order, number still unknown:

"Executive Order -- Using Behavioral Science Insights to Better Serve the American People

EXECUTIVE ORDER
- - - - - - -
USING BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE INSIGHTS TO BETTER SERVE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE

A growing body of evidence demonstrates that behavioral science insights -- research findings from fields such as behavioral economics and psychology about how people make decisions and act on them -- can be used to design government policies to better serve the American people.

Where Federal policies have been designed to reflect behavioral science insights, they have substantially improved outcomes for the individuals, families, communities, and businesses those policies serve. For example, automatic enrollment and automatic escalation in retirement savings plans have made it easier to save for the future, and have helped Americans accumulate billions of dollars in additional retirement savings. Similarly, streamlining the application process for Federal financial aid has made college more financially accessible for millions of students.

To more fully realize the benefits of behavioral insights and deliver better results at a lower cost for the American people, the Federal Government should design its policies and programs to reflect our best understanding of how people engage with, participate in, use, and respond to those policies and programs. By improving the effectiveness and efficiency of Government, behavioral science insights can support a range of national priorities, including helping workers to find better jobs; enabling Americans to lead longer, healthier lives; improving access to educational opportunities and support for success in school; and accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy.

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, I hereby direct the following:

Section 1. Behavioral Science Insights Policy Directive.

(a) Executive departments and agencies (agencies) are encouraged to:

(i) identify policies, programs, and operations where applying behavioral science insights may yield substantial improvements in public welfare, program outcomes, and program cost effectiveness;

(ii) develop strategies for applying behavioral science insights to programs and, where possible, rigorously test and evaluate the impact of these insights;

(iii) recruit behavioral science experts to join the Federal Government as necessary to achieve the goals of this directive; and

(iv) strengthen agency relationships with the research community to better use empirical findings from the behavioral sciences.

(b) In implementing the policy directives in section (a), agencies shall:

(i) identify opportunities to help qualifying individuals, families, communities, and businesses access public programs and benefits by, as appropriate, streamlining processes that may otherwise limit or delay participation -- for example, removing administrative hurdles, shortening wait times, and simplifying forms;

(ii) improve how information is presented to consumers, borrowers, program beneficiaries, and other individuals, whether as directly conveyed by the agency, or in setting standards for the presentation of information, by considering how the content, format, timing, and medium by which information is conveyed affects comprehension and action by individuals, as appropriate;

(iii) identify programs that offer choices and carefully consider how the presentation and structure of those choices, including the order, number, and arrangement of options, can most effectively promote public welfare, as appropriate, giving particular consideration to the selection and setting of default options; and

(iv) review elements of their policies and programs that are designed to encourage or make it easier for Americans to take specific actions, such as saving for retirement or completing education programs. In doing so, agencies shall consider how the timing, frequency, presentation, and labeling of benefits, taxes, subsidies, and other incentives can more effectively and efficiently promote those actions, as appropriate. Particular attention should be paid to opportunities to use nonfinancial incentives.

(c) For policies with a regulatory component, agencies are encouraged to combine this behavioral science insights policy directive with their ongoing review of existing significant regulations to identify and reduce regulatory burdens, as appropriate and consistent with Executive Order 13563 of January 18, 2011 (Improving Regulation and Regulatory Review), and Executive Order 13610 of May 10, 2012 (Identifying and Reducing Regulatory Burdens).

Sec. 2. Implementation of the Behavioral Science Insights Policy Directive. (a) The Social and Behavioral Sciences Team (SBST), under the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) and chaired by the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology, shall provide agencies with advice and policy guidance to help them execute the policy objectives outlined in section 1 of this order, as appropriate.  (b) The NSTC shall release a yearly report summarizing agency implementation of section 1 of this order each year until 2019. Member agencies of the SBST are expected to contribute to this report.  (c) To help execute the policy directive set forth in section 1 of this order, the Chair of the SBST shall, within 45 days of the date of this order and thereafter as necessary, issue guidance to assist agencies in implementing this order.

Sec. 3. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:

(i) the authority granted by law to a department or agency, or the head thereof; or

(ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.

(b) This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.

(c) Independent agencies are strongly encouraged to comply with the requirements of this order.

(d) This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

BARACK OBAMA

THE WHITE HOUSE,
September 15, 2015."

Finally, probably one of the shittiest ways the government plays with the minds of those on Facebook, we will briefly discuss the use of something that has been known in Facebook land:  Provocateurs/Trolls.

What is a Provocateur or a Troll?  Well, they are very nearly the same thing, but are defined and grouped differently.

A Provocateur's job is to cause dissent among organized groups.  It's definition in social media sectors is this:  A member of law enforcement or paid individual by the same, used to cause dissention amongst those of groups that intend to work towards a common goal, whether it be lawful...or not

A troll, on the other hand, may also be a provocateur, but has been officially defined as this by the Urban Dictionary:

Main Definition:

One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument

Secondary Definition:

One who purposely and deliberately (that purpose usually being self-amusement) starts an argument in a manner which attacks others on a forum without in any way listening to the arguments proposed by his or her peers. He will spark of such an argument via the use of ad hominem attacks (i.e. 'you're nothing but a fanboy' is a popular phrase) with no substance or relevence to back them up as well as straw man arguments, which he uses to simply avoid addressing the essence of the issue.

Souce: - urbandictionary.com

I guess my point here, folks, is that social media, not just Facebook for sure, but ALL social media is now suspect of not being, anymore, a place where you can connect with friends, family, and make new friends as well, share funny pictures and videos and more, but is now a playground where your privacy and your personal thoughts and feelings may now be investigated by law enforcement, or may even be used to perform behavioral experiments on you.  Kinda takes the fun out of it doesn't it?

All social media should be carefully used.  But then, with over a billion people just on facebook, including all of America, surely?  Be afraid.  Be very afraid.  Not of the app itself, but of what is possible for law enforcement and government to do with it.

Braving The Banjo

http://moviepilot.com/tags/the-twilight-zone

OK, now that I got my YahYah's out, as well as my nah nah nah naaaaah nah's, it's time for a special "enlargement" post.  This will be the COMPLETE tale, beginning to end, of my little jail time experience.  You have to remember, this is not only the Mighty Sword's life, this is also the life of Mr. Christopher Bruce, the man with a talent for having the sh**iest luck on the planet, and for always being in the wrong place at the right time.

See, you would think, at least for most, that this would have been a simple case of "Corrupt DHS workers throw monkey wrench in defendant's life, because a.  They want to screw you up in your assessment appeal, keep your baby, and make you sign the abuse registry for ten years, and b.  they are mad because of that little ordeal with their pet foster parents (I suppose, for them, it's a lot like killing the neighbor's dog and hanging it on their door by a nail, just because you didn't like him burying bones in your successful garden.  They have a real knack for blowing things (and feelings) waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of proportion.  I'm sorry, I don't know WHY the word "feelings" got there, DHS never has feelings.  I'll think of a better one later....no time, haven't had any sleep since yesterday at noon), put out warrant for his arrest, Chris gets arrested, has to be deported back to home city, Chris goes before judge pays bail and goes free until court...but it ain't.  No, my interesting Judeo-Christian friends, Chris's life just don't play that.  Nothing is EVER "cut and dried" where this man is concerned.  Worse yet, it always seems to bleed out and affect nearly everyone within 20 feet of him as well.

Anyway, I digress.  Back to it, it should have been pretty cut and dried, but it 'tweren't.  See, it wasn't even the idiots at the Des Moines Police Department who figured out where I was.  No, there was a 3rd party to my capture, the one who fingered my Washington trick to throw off the Des Moines Police.  This party had a brain and a lot more power, where finding me on the Internet was concerned.  BTW, I still intend to go to Washington...but I couldn't feasibly attend until I flushed the harassment stuff down the toity.  Enter then, a CIA operative, who had suddenly become VERY interested when I put, on the Church's blog post, the phrase "I fully intend to camp out on Obama's doorstep, until he does something about the corruption in my state.  As if I could a.  Get within 1000 yards of Obama's doorstep without going on a tour, b.  I would be allowed to stay on Obama's doorstep, after the tour's end, c.  given my current age and spryness, I couldn't possibly pole vault the very high barb-wire fence like the other guy did, and finally, d.  Like I would be capable of any such violence.  He and he alone is responsible for my capture...not the incompetent Detective Jack Lancaster, as I first believed.

So the Carroll Police were then called to my door to do the dirty deed.  The one officer was pretty polite, and was nice enough to allow me to call my wife and take a few minutes.  The other officer, his partner, was also nice...until the cuffs went on, and I went from acceptable free citizen to cuffed offender, A.K.A. No better than the dirt under his nails.

I was ushered to the Carroll County Jail (it's important to mention, here, that at NO time, during the ENTIRE arrest, or during any subsequent interviews, was I ever quoted Miranda), where I was booked by, who I thought was, an initially nice booking clerk.  Around 2 minutes prior to my being ushered to my cell, I started a bout of fibrillation, something that hasn't happened in years.  Now, a little history, I have had these small occurrences since I was approximately 7.  What happened is, I fibrillate for around 2 minutes, and my heart races to around 180-200 beats a minute, and until I concentrate and end it, it will ravage my circulatory system and fry my brain, leaving behind a massive headache.  Only 2 times, has it ever gone on longer.  The first time was during Hurricane George, my first hurricane, where it lasted for nearly 2 very long and very pain-inducing hours.  I finally had to brave the hurricane and get an IV in my arm that stopped it for me in around 5 minutes, following that 2 hours.  I remember how drained my system was, and the headache obtained from it had, up to this point, been unequalled.

The 2nd time happened here.  I recognized it immediately of course, and asked for someone in the medical field, or an ambulance for the father.  I was ignored, and then placed in my cell.

This heartbeat continued on for over an hour.  All the while I begged, threatened, screamed and yelled over them, in order to "Promise" then, a lot like all the others who have blatantly done these parents in, that their jobs would be had, and people would very much pay; for a medical doctor or nurse to be present to observe this very critical and life-threatening condition.  Then, thankfully, it ended...just two moments before the DMPD showed up to usher the defendant to Polk County Jail.

Now, I have to take a moment to state, also, that at this time, as well as a few times to follow, I will be praising the names of a few select DMPD's and PC Sheriff's for doing their respective jobs, and doing them well; respectfully AND lawfully.  These folks have earned my "above and beyond" awards, and are hereby to be recognized for actually "Protecting" as well as "Serving"  the main two jobs that are SUPPOSED to be practiced by ALL in law enforcement.  Remember the names well, DES MOINES, and hope, for yourself in YOUR case, the names of those who are honest and forthright.

So, that being said, I'd like to thank (?) and (?) of the Des Moines Police Department, for being kind to this defendant, and for making conversation on the trip back to Des Moines.  (I'm afraid I have to leave the names off of the blog, until I can contact the Guthrie County Sheriff's office...I ADD'd all of my legal papers in the nice Sheriff's car that rode my tired butt into the next county, after getting hypothermia and walking for nearly 25 miles in 31 degree weather with only a jean jacket on.  These two were patient and considered my story from various sides, instead of most people I know, who are generally one-sided in their thinking.

Now, I can say a lot of bad things about the Polk County Sheriffs.  Remember, these are the Judge's goons at the Polk County Courthouse, and I have no respect for most of them.  But the CO's at the jail (with the notable exception of one, whose story will soon be related) were quite understanding and pretty amiable as well...if you were a good egg, and followed the rules, as well as weren't too damned annoying; or just were plain old off of your rocker.  Unfortunately, I won't be giving you their real names, only because they aren't allowed to give them out...something to do with possible "favoritism" or something like that.  I will be describing them only as C.O. A, B, etc., and as long as THEY know who they are, they can garner their own appreciation, and we'll just leave it at that.  Anyway, like I stated, I can say a lot of bad enough things about them and their jail, but the one thing I won't be able to say is that they don't consider your life and your health more important; over and above anything to do with incarceration.  I wouldn't be so fortunate with the Carroll County Sheriffs.  These people laughed at me while I went through this, and made fun of everything I was screaming about, and totally ignored me, in order to deprive me of the help I was desperately in need of, concerning a very important life-threatening condition.  They will, of course, be added to what I now call "The Bruce Bitch List", my very long list of a forever growing number of people who will be paying...out of their a**es, as well as with their respective positions.

Moving along, I arrived at Polk County to enter "The Fishbowl", a cell made entirely of Cement, where you are expected to eat, go to the bathroom in front of, and share sleeping places with as many as 12-15 other Polk County misdoers, while you wait interminably for next morning's court arraignment on your charges, or wait while your loved ones struggle, against all odds (collect phone calls, putting money on your books, etc.) to bail you out a.s.a.p.  There is only one bad thing about the processes you need to make and follow in order to accomplish everything:  If you've never been through this before, as in the case of your spouse's mate, it's nearly impossible to communicate to them, all within a 15 second radius).  Then at the end of your stay, you generally still won't have money on the books, won't have talked to your wife in days, and are no closer to getting out than you were when you went in, even after a few days.  Suddenly, I had a mental relapse back to DHS's "reasonable efforts", where they offer you ridiculous things that serve NO purpose to help reunify you.  *shudders*

So, as you already know, I had the very fair Judge Birkenholtz, and he, of course, disregarded Mr. Sarcone's suggestion, and let me get my bond, and, naturally, my bail as well.  Directly following this, as you also know, I had my surprise interview with Mr. CIA.  All went surprisingly well with that too.  He understood that this was about my daughter and the corruption in my state, and nothing more.  What's more, he took extra time to question me about what I had gone through with DHS as well, like he was attempting to ascertain, not my talking too much about it, but more like he was trying to figure out if DHS wasn't maybe going too far.  That made me feel a little more confident about my trip to Washington.  I made it perfectly clear that this was about jobs, and that what I said about camping out on Obama's doorstep was simply a metaphor.  I also made it perfectly clear that I had no intention of setting up camp on his actual doorstep.  I meant, actually, that it was Washington itself, hat I considered to be Obama's doorstep.

On day one of my little stay at Polk County, I grew tired, already, of watching other people getting out, and I was still having issues making it clear to my wife what she was supposed to do to get me out.  After a time, I got that I needed someone...ANYBODY, that would sign my guarantee with the bailbondsman, that I would appear on the court date stated.  I then called my brother, who I THOUGHT would sign the bond paper.  He didn't quoting that I still owed him money from before, money that we had talked about and argued that I owed him little to nothing, and he insisted that it was more.  Well, screw you too brother.  I had friends/ex-bosses that were nicer, they signed it, and my family won't, over an amount of money not worth spitting on, really.  As for calling my mother, I got about as far; she hung up as soon as it was known that she might have to pay a small collect phone bill.  Really?  In retirement, she made more money than when she actually worked for the state...so that's no excuse in my eyes either.  And you wonder why I'm not too thrilled with my immediate family.

After talking with my mother, I was despondent that my own family didn't even trust me to show for court, even though I've never skipped out on a court date to date...but my former bosses, who I've known for far less (and who obviously know me a lot better than my family does, currently), did...the following day.  Needless to say, though, on that first day, I was pretty down...and I threw a couple of minor temper tantrums.  The C.O. on that day was the only guy I didn't get along with too well, mostly because he liked abusing his position somewhat.  He threw me into solitaire...and they stripped me naked.  The next morning, as additional punishment (like practically breaking my bones in order to leave me in the cell, added to being left in a cell with nothing to do and the lights on all night, with crazier people than you banging and raising hell all the time wasn't nearly enough), for breakfast, I was treated with a whole honeybun, a small carton of milk, and an orange juice.  Nice rounded meal, huh?

The day after that, things went better.  By the time I was done with that day, it was time to get out.  All of that went ahead with nary a hitch...but I was left in Des Moines BY Des Moines with no money, and no way home.  I would mention this at a more appropriate time, but to say it now makes more sense.  Polk County, who has continuously sucked me dry of fines and things to pay for, where their justice system was concerned, had drug me back to a city I despise now...and abandoned me to fend for myself, where getting home was talked about...and along the way home, different sherrifs of other counties were giving me ride along the way TO GET ME BACK HOME.  What's wrong with that picture????

So I decided not to stick around long, and I stuck out the good ol' reliable thumb and got to work.  Funny though, it would seem that rural Iowa isn't as big on picking up hitch-hikers as they used to be.  This would soon present a problem.  Remember too, that when I got arrested, it had just been a balmy 80 degrees, and all I had been arrested with was a short-sleeved shirt, and a pair of cargo's.  I had brought no coat, my pay card had been left with the wife, and I had no food, money, and had left all of my phones at home.  I was a little screwed there...but, like a fool, I counted on the good people of Iowa (of which I later found out, was running a bit short of generosity and understanding, in addition to some other things I discovered that might have dampened a soul in that part of the country thinking that ALL hitchhiking is illegal.  No, Iowa, hitchhiking isn't all illegal.  Only the kind that is done on a U.S. Interstate...that's it.  State roads, county roads and gravels are all good for that. You can't do this on a four lane interstate...and I can pretty much understand that thinking.  No, hitchhiking is NOT illegal on those secondary road and highways and lower.

I started the trip at the QT in Grimes at 6 p.m.  By this time, the temps dropped almost 40 degrees to an overnight stay at a local friend's place for the night.  I started the trip at around 7.

I walked straight through from Grimes to Granger, an 8 mile hike, as the Bruce flies.  I was picked up in Granger, then, by a nice elderly sheriff of that county, and he rode me all the way to Perry.  He left me in a spot by the plant there, where it was well lit, and I thought to pick up a ride there....that NEVER came.  As I stood in the even colder weather, another such sheriff picked me up there as well.  One thing though, the farthest he was able to lift me was the airport in Parry...about one and a half miles from my previous spot...and presented this as my problem now; in the blackest and coldest part of night, with nothing better than a car or so coming my way at a rate of 1 or so cars per every 15 minutes.  Not a good sign...and now the traffic, of course, was on the decline...as was my warmth.  By the time I had only gotten a mile or so, the cold was unbearable, and it was now around midnight, with no relief in sight.  I was practically hypothermic, and no shelter would present itself now until I got home, or morning came...not good odds for a thinner man.  As a small burg came up along the right, I made a beeline for it, hoping for somewhere to be open for warming.  I would soon be quite disappointed with my findings.

The town of Dawson, Iowa, was around 300 or so in population, and one of Iowa's smallest burgs.  Worse yet, there was nary a place that might even partially promise to be open.  I looked around for a sleeping resident's vehicle...a move of desperation.  I figured warming up for 15 or so minutes in an open vehicle might help me out.  It didn't help a whole lot, at this point though.  Something else would have to be found to help out.

This is where it gets super strange.  On my way out of that dead town, I spotted a miserably old wrecked trailer.  The door was wide open, obviously with nary a resident in sight.  I cautiously approached this and entered, with the hope of finding a warmer piece of clothing or the like.  What I found instead would be a Godsend.  On the window in the living room was a large thick blanket covering the window.  I grabbed it...then started.  I heard a rustling outside that I was sure might be someone checking out the now closed trailer.  I bolted for a dark bedroom and waited.

Soon it became quite apparent that there were people walking through the trailer, and I moved ever so slowly to cover myself in my dark corner.  After it seemed like the walk through had ended, I moved to the living room to find the door once again wide open.  I freaked.  I bolted for the door, and saw a brand new caddy drive by, with a single occupant.  Not wanting to find out if they might be searching for someone they didn't recognize as being the one they suspected might have been in that trailer made me a little paranoid.  I would later discover that my paranoia was pretty well founded.

As the caddy passed me by, I made a run to get out of that dead place.  I made for the highway, but didn't quite make it before two cars caught up to me.

The first contained about 5 boys.  It slowed down, and I noticed that at least 5 heads had all turned in my direction.  With a slight whimper, I wrapped the blanket closer around me, and then noticed that the 2nd vehicle was the newer caddy that had passed by me earlier.  Now I was seriously tripping, and walked faster.  I watched as both cars reached the highway I was headed towards, then both moved on to go another mile North, then east, then back to the original road they had passed me by on.  By this time I had reached the highway, and had made it around a 1/4 mile past this to the West.

I then watched as the caddy went East...and the original car with the boys had turned no other direction than the one I had been headed in.  All I could think about at this time was Stephen King's Children of the Corn, and decided on what I would later discover would be a very prudent move...I made for the dark corn field to my left and covered my entire body with the blanket.  They passed me by...then stopped and turned around in about another 1/8...as far, I imagine, as I could have possibly made it by this time.

Now, if this had stopped then, I would have chalked it all up to paranoia.  But here's the weird thing...when the two cars again met up at the same checkpoint road, I watched for another two hours as these same cars branched out to further and further roads, as if they were still looking for the offender...just because I had borrowed an ichy blanket out of an already demolished and abandoned trailer that wouldn't have been salvagable by fire even.  I think my life, even though it's not worth a whole bunch as it stands, was certainly worth this town's huge sacrifice of a ratted out blanket in a trailer that wasn't worth the money they might have gotten by scrapping the metal on it, or wasn't even being lived in, and whose door was wide open.  It gave me the creeps, and I ducked and covered often, yet usually had beaten them and continued on before they made it to the next road.  I was never more pleased to get away from a town in Iowa than that one, people.  The actions taken by these horribly bored residents made DHS's stuff look like amateur scare tactics,  compared to what I witnessed in Dawson, believe that.

I walked over 12 miles to the next town of Jamaica Iowa.  This brought my running walking miles to a whopping total of 20 in those limited hours.  I reached Jamaica, and finally ran into yet another sheriff.  This one would run me to Carroll County, my home county.  I don't think I'll be returning to Guthrie county...well, ever, I can bet, unless I'm drivin' straight through.

As the sheriff there dropped me off, he promised he would contact the Carroll County sheriff to get me the remainder of the way, a statement I didn't feel the need to argue about.  I gladly waited, and the promised Sheriff did arrive.  He got me as far as Glidden, about 7 miles outside of Carroll, and I once again stuck out the ol' thumb thinkin' I wouldn't be long getting a ride at all, considering the distance I wanted to go.

Instead, I walked almost another 5 miles before I would get a ride into Carroll, bringing the whole walking total to more miles in that distance of travel than I had ever experienced in a combined run of equal or greater distance.  There has never been a happier guy than me than to finally get home, take a shower (that I hadn't done for over 3 days) and change the clothes that I had been in for the same frame of time.  Pretty weird for an otherwise cut and dried ordeal that most would go through in the same circumstances, eh?  :D

SPECIAL NOTE:  The church blog post, will, of course, be replaced at the head of the blog again following a 24 hour reading of this post.  This is only to allow the promised new readers of law enforcement to reap their thanks for doing the father right in this strange and scary time.  Now, that will, of course, place that post back at the bottom of the "Most Read Posts" list, and start it back over...but I'm sure you fine readers will drive it right back up again.  Toodles.

Employment Discrimination and Former CIA operatives

Hey America, guess who?  Yeah, it's me.  Back for round...fifty...something er other...wow.  I can't believe I'm actually to the point where I've lost track!!  And I have the lot o' you to thank for it.  Oh, yeah.   Thanks!  To the lot of you.  You know who you are, surely.

Yesterday?  Quite the exciting day for me.  An editor for CNN followed me.  I was gushing with pride.  However, it's been said that good attention can also garner you attention you don't want as well.  Enter first thing this morning.

I gotta say, the day began just a bit creepy for me today.  First thing, right out of the gate, I got followed by a guy named Dan Gabriel.  The title wording on his profile says "Fmr. Central Intelligence Agency Officer"...this is quickly followed up by the phrase "Insurgencies:  Foreign and Domestic."  In case you hadn't guessed, "Fmr." would, to me anyway, indicate that this man is a FORMER CIA Officer.  This, though, is very little consolation to me, and doesn't do one little thing to make me feel better about him being "former" at all.  I mean, just because a boxer retires, and is then known as a "former boxer", he might very well not be in fights anymore, but it doesn't mean the guy can't still kick your butt, am I right?

One of my very smart sons said to me "I'm sure you'll be fine, really.  I mean, if the CIA was really trying to spy on you, they wouldn't follow you openly in Twitter."...and I agreed, quickly.  Then, after some thought, I said...(and he agreed that this made a sordid amount of sense), wait though, what genius!  Send out an officer, label him as a FORMER CIA officer, then have him follow me openly.  I'd never suspect that!  I'd laugh it off, thinking what my son said at first.  There's subterfuge at it's finest.  The best place to hide is right in front of your nose, where you wouldn't think they'd be, right?

If you'd like, you can look him up under my followers.  I put his picture at the top of this post.  Wave at him too will ya?  Make him feel right at home.  I'd like him to know that I'm not the only one over here.  See, when strange people attach themselves to you out of the blue, for no real logical reason that you can think of, it's always best to a.) call them out in a public place (I immediately tweeted this guy publicly and said "Excuse me!  Should I worried that you're following me?"), then b.) I posted that he was following me, in the main feed on Twitter, then c.) I posted that he was following me, as well, on my page in Facebook.  And finally, d.) I told both my sons about him, and talked to several other friends as well, making sure, of course, that everyone knows...you know, just in case of strange disappearances and the like.  Best of all, thank God, I'm annoying, loud, and overbearing.  I make a lot of noise, and I do it often.  If I were ever to be silenced, it wouldn't matter if all my material were erased in a cover-up, I would most certainly be immediately missed.  A rather wide gaping hole would become disturbingly apparent.  Yup, people would say I was finally nabbed.  Not just by followers either.  Friends, family, they'd know within 24 hours that something was rotton in Iowa.  It'd take millions in hush money to quiet that roar...so I'm not concerned on that note.

Now you may think I'm being a bit paranoid...but let's be honest here, the times, they are a changin', and stranger unexplained things have happened to less notable citizens than me and who I am, that were accused of spouting off things that were even more tame than the things I say even.  Let it be known that I will never be a statistic.  I am, however, OK with being a martyr, so if I really am being followed for dire purposes, and will be taken out with even the slightest of over-doing it in my posts, remember I said all this, America, and tell my story.  With every mouth silenced, two or more shall take my place.

I am going to immediately publish this, then write the real article for the day.  Instead of it being posted separately, however, I will simply update it.  So if you read all of this, then wonder where our real post is, it's coming.  Check back.  It wont be long after I post this, I promise.

*********************************************************************************
OK, now that we're finished with all that coo-coo voo-doo, let's get it ON, let's hash out each subject like it was my last (as it might just be!!).  Today's killer sin?  Employment Discrimination!!

Now this one is beginning to be felt by me in more than one way, and is covered as well in two other articles I wrote for this blog; and they are titled:  "Your Credit...as a condition of your employment?" and "Going to Work...if you're lucky."  These two, although pretty thorough on their respective subjects, just didn't really cover the entire scope of what I want to say about the matter.

So let's just say that this is a continuation, and place all of those other posts in the loving arms of this one as it's finale.  On we go then.

Another bullet point in the realm of employment discrimination, is age.  Then there's color.  Race.  Creed.  Sex.  Origin.  Religion...the possibilities are, of course, endless.  Granted, local, state and Federal regulations have done much to cut down on these and other ways a company (or individual, of course) could feasibly discriminate; either in the hiring of you, the working of you, and, of course, concerning the end of your career as well.  I do have to ask though, ultimately, what's the sense in any of what the law says is discrimination, and what can or can't be done to deter it?

Let's say you go for an interview, and, let's face it, you smell BAD.  I don't care if you have 20 years experience in what this company wants, if they don't like you because you smell bad, you won't get hired.  Is this discrimination, due to your orafactal offensiveness?  Well, yes.  Now, let's say there's a law that was just passed, and it clearly states, in no uncertain terms, that you cannot be discriminated against because of the odor you put off.  Let's go through that interview again.  Do you think this new law is going to make a single difference in the outcome of your interview, now that you can be fined or worse for it?  Hell no.  It doesn't mean a damn thing that there's a law against it.  The hiring process happens in your HR employees head, and only there.  Oh, you can SAY there was discrimination there...you may have proof that you smelled bad...you may even sue, using this very solid offense.  But when the person who was in charge of hiring you takes the stand?  That man/woman can say just about anything else about you was the reason you weren't hired.  The position you decided to assume in your chair when interviewed, your body language didn't agree with what you were putting out there.  Your socks didn't match.   You were wearing dressy casual shoes with a dress outfit.  You had your tonsils taken out.  The tooth that should be in postion Upper 22 is missing.  You used to steal paperclips from one of your bosses...hell, they can practically sell just about any story they can dream up.

The same applies to firing you.  If they can't cut your hours, or make you mad enough that you'll quit on your own?  They can make up just about any reason for it anymore.  More messed up are the sentences I call "A manager's best friend":  The vague reason.  Now, managers, etc, are now not ALLOWED to give out detailed reasons concerning your firing.  This is classic!  Sure, it protects you when others call in about you...these pre-drawn up phrases are there to protect your new employer from hearing say, that you smelled bad, and keep your former employer, who may be massively upset with you for some silly reason in whicch he could go on for days about...at which point, the new guy goes "Oh wow...OK, thank yo....THANK YOU!!...and any chance you had at getting the job?  OUT THE WINDOW.  So thank God for that legislation, right?

Hmm, I wonder.  See, that works real well for all that stuff up there.  But now, let's say, the new guy calls into Mr. Old Job, and he says this exact phrase...one of my favorites, by the way, "Well, he just wasn't a good fit."  This, under our new legislation concerning after job conversations, is all right to say.  Oh but wait, so really...now, instead of the new guy making up his own mind, regarding what the Old Job guys said, now we have 20 or so legal things we can say ONLY...so what then is to stop employers from putting out there, in whatever way they might, a cheat sheet, saying "Well, he wasn't a good fit = Whatever they might want it to mean???  What I'm trying to say here, America, is now we've given them what I'd like to refer to as "Code Sentences."  Since it can't be said that you're an asshole, who's been known to constantly comment on the absurd outfits your female customers wear, in accordance with what shoes, we have this little hiring booklet referal sheet, and something said by Mr. Old Job,  Hmm, lemme look that up...ohhh...yeah, that's #3, "Well, we didn't feel this employee was a good fit".  That means don't hire this guy, we was probably an asshole.  Yeah, we decided that at the last HR convention in New York last year."  Get what I'm saying here??

By passing that legislation...which by the way, I'm sure they had good reason to do, what with our sue-happy nature as Americans...they've made HR's job TONS easier!  They can decide to not hire you within seconds of calling of your first previous job listing's HR department, and save themselves the trouble of having to decide based on professional references, qualifications, or the GPA you had during the course of obtaining your BA.  Nice.  All with 20 little common phrases they have to say if Mr. Old Job is called by possible Mr. New Job.

So you see America, what I'm trying to say is, all this stuff that's supposedly protected against, in case you're interviewing for a job, working IN a job, or getting fired from one?  It's not protected, and you and I both know it to be fact.  If you've been working at Microsoft 18 years, and in 2 more you're going to get a benefits package drawn up by Bill himself that's going to set you for life?  Bill can drop an order to your manager and have you fired within seconds just about anytime he deems it necessary to save the company money, trust me.  "Say Joe, could you come to my office?"...and Joe goes in, just to hear "Claudia, the accounting supervisor in section 12-D says she came by your desk the other day and heard you telling Jerry, your neighbor, a sexual joke...and I'm afraid that's against our Harrassment policy.  I'm afraid we're gonna have to let you go"...and Presto Chango, we let Joe go, we don't have to pay him that god-awful high wage anymore, we don't have to give him retirement in a couple years, and we can hire Dan, that naive 20 yr. old we interviewed the other day at half the cost to us.  YIPPEE!!  See how it all comes down in the capitalist world America?  Until Manana mi Amigos
