Campaigning For Office
So what, you'all thought that since I'm now doing a live version of the blog, that I wasn't gonna write anymore? You're out of your everlovin' minds. I'd MUCH rather pound things out on "paper", then speak any day. At least, about stuff like this. This written spot gives me amendment possibilities. Speaking does NOT! My blog view rate is going down, and I'm banking on the fact that the show just might be the reason...or the excuse to do so.
OKOK...I suppose NOW I'll have to give you great subjects to bash again...you remember, like what we were doing BEFORE the jerks and idiots of our DHS case came to call. What's wrong with our country, yadayadayada. I shoulda read it to be "What ISN'T wrong with our country. That's would have been a whole lot less work, don'tcha think?
Why don't we make this one about campaigning...since this is going to be plaguing us soon enough.
Now, everyone here remembers my article about Elections, the Electoral College, and Education, right? I know, I know, Mr. Nice Guy always comes through for ya, dun't he??
Here's your link, you slovenly lazy critters you:
http://themightyswordamericas26deadlysins.blogspot.com/2014/03/day-5-electionsthe-electoral.html
Here I go into how much I feel our votes count, how those votes are taken, etc. Not the issue here, so not going there. You wanna go there? Follow the link I just offered already..
Now, I'm just gonna have to say this again, to an effect...The current system sucks, and is, by no defination, fair, accurate, or viable. Most importantly, it's most DEFINATELY NOT Constitutional.
Let's go over the process briefly again, shall we? Now remember, "We the People" are SUPPOSED to be in charge of who goes in. But a smart cookie, early on...late 1700's early 1800's...came up with the oh so brilliant "Electoral College" idea before "We the People" would realize how this takes our right to elect our primary officials right back away from us, and just after they gave us the reigns too!
For every single office in the country, state, county, city, whatever...most of the time it's good ol' fashioned go to the polls and cast yer vote. Of course, no one can guarantee the accuracy of those counts, or the purity of the vote...but who's counting?
But, as you all know, the Electoral College determines the President and VP. Oh sure, we're given the ILLUSION that we go down to the polls, check the appropriate box to go along with our choice for President, and hope that its this guy (or gal) that makes it at the end...but that vote, as both of us know, contributes little or nothing to the decision of our electoral buddies, whoever they are, and wherever they may be located in our great nation. That was, of course, a purposeful safeguard put in place to make sure others could ultimately make those critical decisions. They wouldn't want us irresponsible citizens to have the final say there, would we? God forbid.
But then, if you wanted to rehash that mess, you'd be in the other post I posted way back before I posted it here, so you'd read that post prior to this post...or something like that. No, here we want to discuss the utter ridiculousness that now presents itself as the most annoying way possible, in order to better sway our voters whichever way they are striving for them to go. Just keep in mind the fact that the Electoral College has already made their choice of who is going to be the President and Vice, long before "We the People" ever get to the polls.
Let's first discuss "The Caucus". This is, essentially, a show of control. We don't control who gets to be the front runner, we simply "display" our favoritism, and hope they go with that. They don't have to, nor do they need to. They put up who they want to be that, and that's that. This one runs for the Donkeys, this one, they're for the Elephants. That is because, even to this day, these are the only parties that matter to the U.S. Government, no matter how much they CLAIM to recognize any other party, they, on the whole, do not matter. Notice how NOBODY has ever won, as an independant? Control, my friends. Nothing you do or say in the "Elect the President" party makes a damn bit o' difference. They're going to put in who they want to be in, and you know it. But you participate in the festival, hoping that your scream in favor or against will make a difference somehow. It won't, but you're more than welcome to continue in your little fantasy...for whatever good it'll do.
Then, when they've made a choice of the front-running winner of the popularity choice for the party, they put him or her up for our "considration", and the other party puts up theirs. Oh, sure, the independant or "free choice" party puts up their fare as well, and then, unbeknownst to most, there is, evidently, a scattered list of strange entries on our ballots that we somehow managed to miss as people that have, surpisingly, thrown their hats into the ring as well, in order to be considered also, and that we more than likely had no idea were going to try and run for the office at all, until the last minute when the crucial vote is finally upon us. "Really? Jesse Ventura's running?" we say...and as we sit and wonder what position Jesse has on, say, the possible war with Iran, we just say "Oh screw it" at some point in the middle of things, and we instead just vote for the person who was the lesser of the two evils that EVERYONE knows about...one of the original two people we're tired of seeing already, because of the 5 millions ads we've been seeing in the last momth for the two primary party candidates. We know, whoever the lucky candidate might be, that they more than likely spent TENS OF MILLIONS of dollars on all of those wasted spots, that we clicked off of to watch something on the learning channel, just to see something...ANYTHING that didn't say something to the effect of "I'm _____________, and I approve this message" at the end of it.
By the way, a small interjection is needed here...have you guys SEEN JESSE VENTURA LATELY? This guy has aged BADLY. He looks like he just hit his 80th Birthday yesterday!! Surely time isn't flying THAT fast....IS IT?
I often wonder what moron was responsible for making this a law, by the way, to include this confession of ownership of whatever ideal or destructive sentence was being used, in every single campaign ad. And was that law passed without us knowing who was responsible, I wonder? Personally? I'd like to boil those vote casters in oil, or at the very least, have the head of the man or woman responsible for drawing up this bill in order to make it a law, in the first place. All because there was a small percentage of America, somewhere, who just had to know who was primarily presenting for the little ditty that just sailed by us. Gee, thanks, whoever you are. I believe I've actually had waking nightmares of Pauly Shore stating the he approves of the past message someday...but we had better not talk about things like that. I laugh about it now, but considering how much more strange the names on our ballots are getting with every new election, I had best quit now while I'm behind.
So, now, as you may have guessed, is the most challenging, difficult and the most mentally disturbing part of the "campaign"....that period of time somewhere between the decision of the caucuses, and the election, where, now, every time we take a breather, there are millions and millions of TV spots, spots that run on and on and on, day in day out, 25/8, every day for the next (no one really knows when this period of torture officially begins and ends, I do believe) God knows, how many months until the election. By the time this period of time ends, everyone from your grandpa down has been cleaning their rifles and threatening that, if they see that candidate in person, they're going to blow that candidates left big toe off, for puttin' them through all that.
I mean, come on America. How many times do we really need to see that this person is in favor of raising taxes, for us idiot voters to be able to retain it for future reference? I truly don't believe it needs to be more than, say, three. But, I'll lay money on the fact, that by the time the election actually does happen? I've seen that ad more than 100 times. Hell, that figure might actually be closer to 1000, if it was concerning the current candidates for President. You can't possibly imagine all the times you mentally shut down the minute you hear even the first two words of that ad, as it runs, AGAIN, for the 40th time, just today. I wonder, really, if the networks that run these ads in their schedules are aware of the growth of an already large part of the American populace. who actually STOP WATCHING TV ENTIRELY during this period in our country, every 4 or so years. Oh, I'm certain that the group in question began with a membership of citizens who aged, more than likely, between 40-death, but are getting more diverse in that number every year. Pretty soon, it'll be a law that you're not ALLOWED to run your TV during this period of time, in your town, or you may just face jail time. I wouldn't be even a little surprised. I don't think the candidates for President are aware of just how much we hate these ads. Please, if you will, spend about 9.5 million less on all of those spots this year, will you Jeb? Give that money to some folks who really need it....because if I see that ad ONE...MORE...TIME? I'm going to vote for the other guy ON PURPOSE, JUST TO PISS YOU OFF...and I sure don't mean the other guy who also ran his ads to death.
Wouldn't it be funny if the Independant party's candidate finally DID win...and it was all because we were so sick of the primary party's ads that we voted for the 3rd choice, just to see what would happen...AND IT WORKED??? We can only pray this may happen someday. Heck, we may actually have a great President for a change, one that we might be proud of having...something we haven't enjoyed since Reagan...if any of you actually DID actively enjoy that period. No, you needn't worry, there's no poll forthcoming from THIS author. I could care less about the past. My nose is very far up the A** of the future, thank you very much.
Damn, it's GOOD TO BE BACK!!
